Safeguarding and Child Protection:
Safeguarding and Child Protection is paramount at our Nursery at and the heart of everything we do.
All children deserve to feel safe and cared for at all times.
When you leave your child/children at Nursery you can be completely confident that they are in safe hands.
Our approach if we have a concern about a child is that we "never do nothing".
We have robust safer recruitment procedures and all our staff have enhanced DBS checks.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Parents can feel confident that safer recruitment procedures are in place to ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children. Staff hope that parents and children will feel free to talk about any concerns or worries which may affect educational progress and that they will see the school as a safe place.
Children will always be taken seriously should they disclose an incident to a member of staff. Parents will normally be notified of the disclosure, asked to discuss this and consent obtained before any referral is made to any agency outside of the school under Local Child Protection Procedures. However, staff cannot always guarantee to consult parents first, neither can they keep children’s concerns confidential especially when a referral must be made to the appropriate agencies in order to safeguard the child’s welfare.
Staff have a duty to make referrals to the appropriate agencies in order to safeguard a child’s welfare.
Those children identified as "at risk" are monitored and the school has great confidence in any other agencies involved.
Staff have a legal obligation to record any bruising or other injuries or concerns regarding a child. Edith Cadbury Nursery School follows the Local Authority Child Protection procedures and may on occasions have to contact another agency such as Health or Health and Social Care without first informing parents.
Through school activities we hope to raise pupils’ awareness and build confidence and self-esteem so that they have a range of contacts and strategies to ensure their own safety. The school ensures that bullying is identified and dealt with as soon as possible. All children are encouraged to show respect and understanding to others.
Schools are not responsible for investigating cases of actual or potential child abuse. We are essentially agencies for referral.
Child protection is the responsibility of everyone. Issues may arise with respect to any child in any school at any time. All agencies that work with children are committed to following policy laid down by Birmingham Safeguarding Board. See our policies section to view our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
If you have any concerns about a child or see or hear something that doesn't feel right please report it to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads immediately.

CEOP is the main UK agency responsible for keeping children safe on-line and has a wealth of information and links to help you. This is predominantly aimed at adults.

The Underwear Rule:
Teach your child the Underwear Rule and help protect them.
Prevent/Extremism:
At Edith Cadbury Nursery School we uphold the principles and values outlined in The Prevent Strategy for combating extremism and our staff are aware of the forms that extremist behaviours may take. Systems are in place to address concerns regarding extremism, FGM, sexual exploitation of children and child trafficking as well as other forms of abuse.
Accidents:
If your child has an accident at school it will be recorded and you will be informed. If there is a serious injury, we will let you know immediately. Please ensure that we always have a current up to date contact number and that you tell us if your phone number or details change.
The Nursery has a Child Protection Policy, and a Care and Control Policy. Both are available for parents to scrutinize.
Protecting Staff:
Our aim is for our Nursery to be a happy and safe place for our children, parents and staff. Therefore we do not tolerate intimidating, aggressive, threatening or abusive behaviour within the Nursery or against any of our staff, either in person or on the telephone. If such behaviour does occur we will take action and deal with it robustly, involving the Police and Local Authority if necessary.
This can result in the person concerned being banned from the premises and facing the possibility of legal action.
